As part of our Information Advice and Guidance Service Enham Trust supports disabled people to employ their own staff. This vacancy is not a role within Enham Trust but an excellent opportunity to work directly for one of our customers.

We are recruiting for a female Personal Assistants to join a small team of carers to support a lady with multiple health conditions in the Manadon area of Plymouth. You will be employed directly by the service user and working in the employers home and the community.

The shifts will vary but you will be required to work weekdays and weekends between 8am and 11pm. Flexibility is essential, however the employer is happy to consider applicants other commitments.  

The employer is a lady in her 50’s who is young at heart and has a good sense of humour. She enjoys the theatre and cinema, board games and used to enjoy playing boules. She would like to employ staff to be able to remain independent in her own home. 


  • Provide personal care assistance to the employer
  • Able to assist with housekeeping and domestic tasks such as cooking and laundry.
  • Support to attend appointments and access the community
  • Support with communication and organising appointments
  • Support with administering medication
  • The employer has a small dog (Shih Tzu), you must be comfortable tending to the dogs needs and supporting the employer by taking the dog for walks. 

Person specification

  • Mature attitude with a sense of humour
  • Reliable and excellent time keeping
  • Understanding of confidentiality and trustworthy
  • Organisation skills and an excellent level of written and spoken English
  • Good health and able to complete patient handling training 
  • Flexibility to cover sickness or holidays at short notice

Essential requirements: 

  • Experience in health and social care or in a similar role
  • Experience in providing personal care
  • NVQ 2 or above in Health and Social Care or working towards a similar qualification
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Enhanced DBS (CRB) required and will be obtained prior to commencing, as well as full references.

Desirable requirements

  • Experience of administering medication
  • Understanding of diabetes
  • Car owner and driver
