About Me

I’m 22 years old with a physical disability, Cerebral Palsy, which means I rely on a wheelchair. I’m looking for someone to support me in my third and final year of university. I’m currently studying Criminal Investigation with Psychology at Southampton Solent University.

I'm a bubbly, fun-loving person with a great sense of humour. I have a very supportive family and a good network of friends. This creates a relaxed, inclusive environment that all my previous PA's have really enjoyed working in. I enjoy a busy social life which compliments the time studying for my degree perfectly. My interests include nights out, Harry Potter, Disney and I’m a keen dog lover. It’s important for me to stay fit and healthy and hence I enjoy swimming and going to the gym. This would make the work ideal for someone with similar interests.

About the Job

This is a great opportunity to spend a year doing something very different and meaningful.

You will provide personal, academic & social support. This role goes far beyond simply care work and includes all the fun things you’d expect a student in their early twenties to be doing, like going to see friends, going to parties, the cinema, going on holiday, playing a bit of sport and much more!

Required Skills

  • Full Clean UK Driving Licence as you will be driving our client’s adapted car and be
  • Able to speak, read and write English to a high enough standard to be able to assist with university course work.

Weekly live-in rota: 7 days per fortnight (Flexible rota)

Previous PA's have often used the flexible working arrangements that come with the week on/week off set up to travel abroad or visit friends throughout the year. The combination of this, with the knowledge that they are having a positive, daily impact on someone's life, and the relaxed, inclusive working environment makes this a unique and exciting opportunity.

Care experience is not required as full training in the client's particular requirements will be provided.

Her time at university will be split between living in university accommodation and her parents’ home for occasional weekends and university holidays. There will be a PA room in the same halls as the client.

During the holidays our client will be living with her parents in Somerset, where you will be provided with a PA room.

This position will require you to work with our client at Southampton Solent University and occasionally, at the client’s home in Somerset

Ideal Candidate

  • You will need to be patient and caring
  • Have an interest in Criminal Investigation/Psychology
  • Good organisational skills and being able to work on your own initiative
  • Have a good sense of humour
  • A mature and responsible attitude
  • Excellent hearing and communication skills

Please note you will be required to complete a DBS check – this will be covered by the employer.
