On the Move News
Move Day 2017 was the most successful to date, with the greatest number of schools coming together to take part for the theme of ‘Move on Holiday’.
Thank you to all of you who got involved in your unique, fun and exciting ways. However, only one school could be chosen to win the Move Day prize, but after an extremely difficult and very close decision, the winner of the £500 Jiraffe voucher is…
Henry Tyndale School in Farnborough!
Jiraffe commented; “This was a very tough decision as each school fully embraced the holiday theme and all had brilliant ways to celebrate the Move Day 2017! However as there had to be only one winner, we have chosen Henry Tyndale School, due to their very original ideas for the different races allowing the children to demonstrate a wide variety of skill.
We especially liked the ‘Packing the Suitcase’ race! We also liked how they provided us with the event information, describing the achievements of individual children, along with a range of images, with our favourite picture being the water race one!”
Thank you to all of the schools that took part in the day. We have a selection of photos in our gallery below, from the hundreds that were sent in, so thank you!

20 years MOVE at Landesschulzentrum für Bewegung und Sprache (Regional-School-Center for Mobility and Speech) in Leonding near Linz in Austria.
The school celebrated 20 years of working with Move on 12th of May 2017. More than 150 people came to be part of this special event, including local politicians and representatives from the education authority. The school is for physically handicapped children from the age of 6 to 17 years and sees the Move Programme as a vital part of their teaching and learning process.
Claudia Penn, Move Consultant spoke about the history of the 20 years. Linda Bidabe herself held a training in 1998! The school then became a Move Regional Centre of Excellence in 2007, and since then more than 300 Move Practitioners from Austria and Germany have been trained.
The highlight of the day was the presentation of 2 brand-new professional Move videos: “More Freedom with MOVE” and “6 steps with Leonie” that shows, how Move can be implemented in a school and shows the benefit for the child, the parents, the teacher and the therapist. Thanks to the professional film team of “Education group” and everybody, who helped to make those movies so special!
The finale of the event was the presentation of the Move Song with 10 Move pupils on stage!
Our project with UHNM is well underway and Matt Toms delivered 3 Move Awareness Sessions to the stroke ward staff in August. The feedback was brilliant and everyone who attended the sessions felt that Move will fit brilliantly with the current work they are carrying out. The next stage of the project is to deliver two Senior Practitioner courses to the staff, which will take place at the end of September.
We are also hoping to maximise the potential of this project by using it as a pilot research project for the benefits of Move for stroke rehabilitation.
The flights are booked and Move are off to Russia in the first week of October! Beginning with a Seminar for professionals in Moscow, followed by a Senior Practitioner course in Ekaterinburg, it is set to be a busy week for Anke Baillie who will be delivering the training. Our thanks goes to Anke for all of her hard work on the project so far – we look forward to updating you when we return!
